Rural projects

Since part of Shawinigan's territory is considered rural, the CLD provides services that are specifically geared for projects involving the rural regions of Saint-Gérard-des-Laurentides, Saint-Jean-des-Piles, and Lac-à-la-Tortue.

The Pacte Rural de la Politique Nationale de la Ruralité (the Rural Pact on the National Policy for Rurality) allows for a budget dedicated to the development of several such projects. The budget is allocated as follows:

75% divided equally among the three regions
25% reserved for projects meeting the following criteria:

  • Projects for the revitalization of regions considered devitalized
  • Projects considered territorial
  • Projects involving target groups such as young individuals and women

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Rural Pact, projects must be sponsored by a recognized organization, involve one or more of the priority areas of the City of Shawinigan, and meet the requirements of the National Policy on Rurality.

The priority areas of the City of Shawinigan are as follows:

  • Maintenance and development of recreational facilities
  • Recreational and tourist activities
  • Environmental design and protection

 

The overall direction of the National Policy on Rurality is as follows:

  • Promoting the growth and integration of various groups of people
  • Encouraging the development of the human, cultural, and physical resources of the territory
  • Ensuring the sustainability of rural communities
  • Maintaining a balance between quality of life, the natural environment, and economic activities
